The Chief Executive Officer of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), Mr. Julius Neequaye Kotey, also known as Logass, has clarified the vehicle onboarding process following media reports that have caused confusion among motorists and industry players.
In a press release, Mr. Kotey explained that the onboarding process is not a new or sudden directive, but part of a long-standing system upgrade aimed at improving vehicle registration and data management.
According to him, the onboarding system has been in operation for the past three years and is integrated into the Vehicle Registration System (VRS), which was officially launched in February 2024. He stressed that the process is being implemented in phases as part of a broader technical update.
Mr. Kotey also dismissed claims that vehicle owners who have not completed the onboarding process are barred from using their vehicles.
“Contrary to some reports, vehicle owners are not prohibited from driving if they have not yet completed the onboarding,” he stated.
He assured the public that the DVLA has prioritised convenience, encouraging owners of vehicles registered before 2023 to onboard at their own pace. Mr. Kotey explained that the system allows vehicle details to be updated seamlessly during routine Roadworthy certificate renewals, eliminating the need for panic or rushed compliance.
The DVLA CEO further urged the public to ignore what he described as sensationalist headlines and misinformation circulating in the media.
“I urge the public to disregard sensationalist headlines. For accurate information, please refer exclusively to my official timelines and the DVLA’s verified channels,” he advised.
Mr. Kotey reiterated the Authority’s commitment to transparency and efficient service delivery, assuring motorists that the onboarding process is designed to enhance accuracy and efficiency within the vehicle registration system without disrupting everyday vehicle use.
