All CLOGSAG Members Should Stay AT Home Tomorrow – CLOGSAG declares nationwide strike

Published:

The Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) has reactivated plans for a nationwide strike, set to commence on Thursday, February 20, 2025. The decision comes amid ongoing dissatisfaction with the government’s handling of the appointment of Mr. Samuel Adom Botchway as Registrar of the Births and Deaths Registry.

In a statement circulated to all regional offices, CLOGSAG reaffirmed its intention to proceed with the industrial action, despite previous government assurances that the matter had been resolved. “The strike is on!” the statement declared, underscoring the association’s resolve to ensure its demands are met.

The controversy began after Mr. Botchway’s appointment was met with strong opposition from CLOGSAG, which called for his reassignment. On February 14, 2025, the Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, announced that the issue had been resolved and assured the public that there would be no strike.

“In the truest spirit of cooperation and understanding, we are happy to announce that the matter has been resolved,” the Minister stated at the time.

However, CLOGSAG claims otherwise. Reports of Mr. Botchway’s continued presence in office, including his participation in a budget hearing at the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs on February 17, 2025, have fueled dissatisfaction within the association.

In response, CLOGSAG has directed its members to fully prepare for the strike, citing the government’s failure to follow through on its assurances.

The association emphasized its commitment to ensuring compliance with its demands, urging members to remain resolute and unified in their actions.

With just days to go before the planned industrial action, the situation has reignited concerns about the potential disruption to civil and local government services across the country.

The government is yet to issue a formal response to CLOGSAG’s latest announcement. The coming days will determine whether negotiations can avert the strike or if the association will proceed as planned, further escalating the standoff.
