“A Calculated Ploy to Exonerate NDC Officials” – Godfred Dame Slams Dr. Ayine Over Case Withdrawals

Published:

Former Attorney-General Godfred Dame has accused his successor, Dr. Dominic Ayine, of engaging in a politically motivated campaign to withdraw criminal charges against leading members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). In a detailed response to a press conference held by Dr. Ayine, Mr. Dame labeled the decisions as part of a broader strategy to absolve NDC officials of criminal wrongdoing.

Mr. Dame highlighted a series of case withdrawals by Dr. Ayine within days of taking office, including cases against Cassiel Ato Forson, Dr. Stephen Opuni, and Dr. Johnson Asiama. He described the pace of these withdrawals as unprecedented, accusing the current administration of using legal maneuvers to secure acquittals outside of court rulings.

“Throughout my tenure, no Attorney-General withdrew criminal cases involving members of our government. Acquittals were earned through full court trials, not political interference,” Mr. Dame remarked.

Defending His Record

Mr. Dame rejected allegations of unethical conduct in the “Ambulance Trial,” pointing to a judicial ruling that dismissed claims of interference. He noted that the court had thoroughly examined the evidence and found no basis for accusations against him.

“It completely defies logic and good reason why the Attorney-General would accuse me of unethical conduct when the courts have already determined otherwise,” he said.
